PRP symbol caught in filmy suspense

GUDIVADA: Is it a case of confusion most confounded in Chiranjeevi’s Prajarajyamparty or are the party satraps deliberately revving up the suspense to make the common symbol row a hit show in the eyes of the electorate?
A seemingly bewildered Chiranjeevi on Friday added more confusion to the common symbol issue when he claimed that their fight with the Election Commission would go on till the apex court clears the mess. His remarks have clearly stunned the party circles as it was barely two days ago that the party had withdrawn its petition from the High Court, hinting that it was close to tying up a symbol with some recognised defunct parties from north-east.
Speaking to reporters at Gudivada on Friday after winding up his three-day Krishna district tour, the PRP president said they have filed a fresh petition in the Supreme Court on the issue. “Though we are making alternative arrangements, our legal battle with the EC on the allotment of a common symbol will continue till its fate is decided by the Supreme Court,” said Chiranjeevi.
He also said the party candidates would contest on independent symbols in case no common symbol was fructified before polling and merger with a defunct party after the elections. “In such scenario, the anti-defection law will not affect us,” he explained.
Curiously, Chiranjeevi on the first day of his tour had claimed that intense negotiations were on with some regional non-working parties and they would contest the election on common symbol. “Everyone in the party has thought that negotiations with the defunct recognised parties from north-east states are in advanced stage and the announcement will be made at the public meeting in Hyderabad on Saturday,” a district PRP leader said.
Political analysts felt that such statements would send wrong signals to the cadres even if it was well thought-out strategy of Chiranjeevi and his coteries to keep everyone guessing just like the way they did in the case of announcing the party’s name seven months ago.
