PR downplays Parakala issue

Senior leaders of the Praja Rajyam on Thursday tried to downplay resignation by the party general secretary Parakala Prabhakar saying, though unfortunate, it was common during the time of elections.
Addressing a press conference party’s Political Affairs Committee member P. Upendra and general secretary C. Uma Malleswara Rao asserted that there would be no impact on the party. They said though ‘a man like him and his intelligence’ deserved a ticket, it was wrong on his part to hold a press conference right in the office of the party to announce his resignation.
People getting disappointed with a political party, especially around election time was normal, Mr. Upendra said, wondering why the media appeared to consider it as ‘uncommon’. There was no problem, he said, adding that so many people were still loyal to Mr. Chiranjeevi even after being denied ticket. Mr. Rao said that the disappointment of so many people at not getting tickets reflected the party’s popularity.
‘Not accepted’
At a separate press conference, Mahila Rajyam president Shobha Rani said just because Mr. Prabhakar left a resignation letter in the office it did not mean it was accepted. “I appeal to him to reconsider his decision,” she said.
