survivor Barbara Padilla | America’s Got Talent

In last night’s fourth performance show of America’s Got Talent, Hodgkin lymphoma survivor Barbara Padilla received high praise from each of the three judges for her operatic singing. While Sharon Osbourne and David Hasselhoff offered only the best commentary on Padilla’s performance of the Italian/English classical song Con te partiro (Time to say goodbye), judge Piers Morgan captured her performance perfectly with his lavish praise.
* Sharon Osbourne – She’s a star! Magnificent, perfect, and breath-taking!
* David Hasselhoff – She is exactly where she’s supposed to be! She is spiritually blessed with a beautiful voice. So beautiful and such a star!
* Piers Morgan – Simon Cowell created this show for performers exactly like her! She has raised the bar!
Last night’s episode of America’s Got Talent, which featured the final 10 acts from the top 40, included lyric soprano Padilla’s live performance early on in the show. Prior to her singing, viewers learned a bit about the young cancer survivor’s life. The 36 year-old had previously been diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and underwent several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, enduring treatment for several years. Padilla was told that the radiation may harm her vocal chords, leaving her unable to sing again. Luckily, that was not the case, and the classically trained lyric soprano’s voice is now in top form.
Last night viewers also learned that Padilla suffered from infertility due to the chemotherapy and radiation used to treat her Hodgkin lymphoma. Her continued desire to grow a family led her and her husband to adopt a beautiful little girl. Though her daughter could not attend last night’s performance, Padilla said that she hoped that her performance would inspire her to never give up on her dreams.
Con te partiro (Time to say goodbye) is a classical song by Francesco Sartori (music) and Lucio Quarantotto (lyrics) that is sung in part in English and in part in Italian. It became Andrea Bocelli’s signature song , as it was first sung and recorded by him in 1995. The lyrics in English follow: (Italian lyrics have been translated)
When I’m alone I dream of the horizon and words fail me.
There is no light in a room where there is no sun
and there is no sun if you’re not here with me, with me.
From every window unfurls my heart the heart that you have won.
Into me you’ve poured the light,
the light that you found by the side of the road.
Time to say goodbye.
Places that I’ve never seen or experienced with you.
Now I shall, I’ll sail with you upon ships across the seas,
seas that exist no more,
it’s time to say goodbye.
When you’re far away I dream of the horizon and words fail me.
And of course I know that you’re with me, with me.
You, my moon, you are with me.
My sun, you’re here with me with me, with me, with me.
Time to say goodbye.
Places that I’ve never seen or experienced with you.
Now I shall, I’ll sail with you upon ships across the seas,
seas that exist no more,
I’ll revive them with you.
I’ll go with you upon ships across the seas,
seas that exist no more,
I’ll revive them with you.
I’ll go with you.
You and me.
